Ludhiana: Under the SVEEP activities of the Election Commission of India, special emphasis is given for increasing the registration of youngsters aged 18-19 years. Moving in this direction, even the District Administration is making efforts.
A meeting under the chairmanship of Additional District Electoral Officer cum Additional Deputy Commissioner (Development) Apneet Riyait was organised today which was also attended by all Election Registration Officers and District Education Officer (Secondary).
During this meeting, the officials were directed that they would hold meeting with heads of all government/private schools, colleges, universities, and other educational institutions, who would ensure that nodal officers are appointed. These heads would also ensure that their students, who would turn 18 years in age on January 1, 2017 must vote in the upcoming elections. Besides this, every ERO (Election Registration Officer) has been directed to ensure that the nodal officers of schools, colleges, universities and educational institutions, in their respective areas organise special camps on September 3, September 10, September 17 and September 24, where new voters would be registered. For holding these camps successfully, concerned supervisor/BLO would also assist them so that all eligible voters get registered as voters.
