Ludhiana: Acting tough against over speeding, drunk and driving, using mobile phone while driving and overloading, the traffic Police have started recommending suspension of driving license from Monday. The driving license of the violator would be suspended for three months, said Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (ADCP Traffic) Dhruv Dhaiya.
However, the strict punishment was proposed last year but the city police have received letter from State Transport Commission for taking strict action against violators. The directions were issued by Supreme Court following which state government has send directions to district police headquarters. The Police will recommend the suspension of driving license by sending a letter to District Transport Officer (DTO).
Giving information, ADCP traffic Dhruv Dhaiya said that traffic police would establish special check points at five points including Jagraon Bridge, Arora Cinema chowk, Bharat Nagar Chowk, Basti Jodhewal Chowk and Khalsa College for Women Ghumar Mandi. At these checkpoints they will issue challans for over speeding, drunk and driving, using mobile phones while driving and overloading of vehicles, also recommended the suspension of driving license.
ADCP further said that to check the functioning of cops at checkpoint they will record the video in cameras during challaning process. The videography will avoid the complaints of misbehavior by cops and also to check the attitude of people. With videography at checkpoints, the complaints of corruption, violators influencing cops and others, he added.
In the first phase, the police have been covering five points of the city under video cameras and later, the video cameras would be installed at every checkpoint. The Police will also aware the people to follow traffic rules through seminars, distributing pamphlets and other means.
