Mohali Stray animals like cows and dogs in city are not only create hindrance in traffic on roads but terror in streets also. Dogs are freely roam on the roads in streets and cause terror in commuters especially children. They also bark for whole night which leads
to disturb residents for whole night.
It is a common sight to see stray Dogs loitering around and even occupying the middle of the road. This disrupts traffic flow and often leads to minor accidents sometimes. Many times, stray Dogs lock horns on the roads and pose threat to the lives of the passersby. The municipal corporation has paid no heed to the nuisance.
Times to time MC have launched stray dogs catching drives. The number of stray dogs had reduced a bit for a while. But overall results are nil. Such drives are needed frequently to get rid of the problem.
Stray dogs are terror for residents. Many times as they bite children The Administration must ensure that public should live peacefully without fear of dog biting.” Residents demanded.
At the civil hospital in Phase VI, around 10-15 dog-bite cases are reported every month. However, the number is likely to be higher as not many people visit the civil hospital for treatment.
Even in last year some residents had demanded the construction of a dog shed to tackle the problem, the MC turned down the proposal as it did not find the idea feasible.
It is pertinent to mentioned that there is no such law for stray dogs. MC can only sterilize them. MC is completely failed to solve this problem. Due to lack of any strong policy Municipal Corporation have to release these dogs even if they catch them
The MC has so far been able to sterilize average 50 dogs per month. To identify the sterilized stray dogs, their ear or other visible body part will be pierced for identification.
MC officials says they are bound under law which says they have to release the stray dogs after sterilized at same place from where they were being catch. In a recent survey, the MC had estimated that there were 4,000 stray dogs within its limits.
