Khanna: A Police Sub-Inspector died while another was injured after an over-speeding truck mowed over him at police check post near Prestine mall at National Highway in Khanna. The truck driver failed to notice the Tempo which was overturned near checkpoint and rammed into it. The cops who were standing near the vehicle were hit by the truck.
The deceased has been identified as Lal Singh (48) of Ladowal and Sub inspector Parminder Singh (47) has suffered injuries in mishap. Singh was admitted at Private hospital in Bija and his condition is stated to be critical.
Eyewitness Amarjit Singh, Assistant Sub Inspector (ASI) Amarjit Singh said that the Khanna Police has established 24 hours checkpoint at National highway and on morning he along with two sub-inspectors and junior cops were present. A tempo loaded with sound system overturned near checkpoint at 8 am. They were rescuing the occupants of tempo when an overloaded truck failed to notice them due to dense fog and mowed over Lal Singh.
Parminder Singh also suffered injuries in mishap, he added.
After the incident, the truck driver fled from the spot. The Police have impounded the truck and registered case of negligent driving against the unidentified truck driver.
