Ludhiana: The authorities at the Ludhiana railway station conducted mock drill to keep a check on the efficiency of the rail staff in the day hours on Wednesday.
The authorities blown a siren and informed that a train was derailed in the outer and few passengers were injured. The staff was told to find the spot, collect relief emergency material and reach the spot at the earliest possible from the local railway station to spot.
A hectic activity was witnessed at the railway station. Soon, an ambulance appeared outside the station and staff was seen checking first aid kits. The Divisional Railway Traffic Manager, S.S Bhatia who was heading the staff at the station, said that their medical van along with doctors, supervisors and other officials were ready within 20 minutes to leave for the spot as after siren, emergency team has to leave the premises in 20 minutes with all the important material for the affected passengers.
Divisional Railway Traffic Manager said that it was a successful drill and they found their staff alert in the emergency situation. He further informed that it is their routine job. “We keep conducting such mock drills to keep our officers and employees on toes to tackle any mishap and to keep staff alert from time to time for the welfare of passengers.”
About the blowing of siren, Bhatia said each siren had distinct sound and different emergency conditions. The staff is being made to learn it even before the joining of the duty in their training. The best thing is that when the siren was blown the medical staff got alert that it was a medical warning as they immediately called me and reached after 20 minutes at my office from places wherever they were in their works at the Ludhiana railway station.
