Ludhiana: The last minute cancellation of participation of senior Congress leader Sunil Jakhar in protest against Pearls Group raised many eyebrows on Wednesday. The protest was to be staged against the Pearls Group for allegedly duping its investors of Rs 45,000 crore. Jakhar had announced to join the protest against Pearls Group but at the last minute Jakhar cancelled his visit.
The owner of Pearls Group was the close aide of PPCC chief Capt Amarinder Singh and skipping the protest by Jakhar raised many question marks. The large number of people from across Punjab who were duped by Pearls Group participated in the protest. Jakhar informed the cancellation of his visit through e-mail and said due to his engagements he cancelled his participation in protest. Jakhar said that he will stand against the company for duping several people and will stand with the victims. It may be recalled here that the Congress had organised rally on the land of Pearls Group few months back.
Meanwhile, the suspended AAP MP Dharamvir Gandhi and senior AAP leader HS Phoolka joined the protesters. In the absence of Jakhar, AAP leaders accused Congress for shielding Pearls Group chief Nirmal Singh Bhangoo. AAP MP Dharamvir Gandhi said that “both Congress and SAD are shielding Pearls due to their own vested interests”. He added that he will raise the issue in the Parliament and demand justice for the victims of the company. Phoolka said that everyone knows that why Jakhar and other Congress leaders have skipped the protest. It was due to SAD- BJP and earlier Congress government that Pearls Group duped innocent people. Meanwhile, Lalit Kumar from Insaaf Di Awaaz Organisation formed by the victim families said that ‘protest will reach Parliament in August’.
