After failing to control stray dog and cattle menace in city, Municipal Corporation has decided to act as pied piper to free city from rat menace. The decision to engage pest controller was taken in F&CC meeting held here on Thursday, in which committee approved the project for Rs 1.34 lakh.
The committee discussed that there is a need to take strong measures to control ever growing problem of rats and thus accorded approval to put in swiss challenge mode to implement as a pilot project in one of the sectors.
The committee discussed and decided that after the success of this pilot project, the same shall be replicated in other sectors of the city.
Nominated councilor, Surinder Bahga said, “The gravity of problem is much more than being anticipated by concerned authorities. A large number of rats are seen in rain water pipes, sewer pipes and at other places. We fear that Chandigarh may get afflicted with diseases like plague in future, if certain concrete measures are not taken. Rats are eating internet connections cables, bite humans, pets, destroy gardens and contaminate water tanks. Their urine, droppings and hair are also vectors of many diseases.”
