Ludhiana: Those visiting to the offices of Police Commissioner and Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) in connection with different works such as complaints and police cases have to face tough time as there are lack facilities for them. During a visit to these offices, Daily Post observed that these two offices have inadequate seating arrangements besides other basic facilities for those visiting to these offices. Luxury offices have been built both Police Commissioner and DCP and on the other hand the visitors have to sweat outside these offices and face harassment. Ironically, the visitors also have to face the ire of staff of top police officials who made them stand outside the offices for long hours.
As the office of Police Commissioner Jatinder Singh Aulakh was shifted in the Police Headquarters the people have to wait in the compound of commissionerate premises where only few chairs are installed in the waiting area.t is in contrary to the claims of the state government that infrastructure is being developed. Those visiting these offices do not have even the facilities such as fans and drinking water. Only a temporary shed is installed where only ten chairs are installed. Even there is no proper seating arrangement for the staff and security personnel of the Police Commissioner near his new office. Interestingly, in the old office premises of Police Commissioner, well furnished waiting hall, waiting hall for VVIPs and separate office for staff are lying abandoned.
Other side of the coin
Though the visitors at the office of Police Commissioner and DCP face harassment yet a special treatment is provided to the visitors in the office of Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (Headquarters) Dhruv Dhaiya. Dhaiya has installed a notice outside his offices which reads that if any cop or staff member of his office stops to meet him or creates any hurdle the visitor should directly approach him.
Visitors’ ordeal starts at waiting area
The waiting area outside DCP office is another source of harassment for the visitors. The DCP himself sits in luxurious office but the office itself sans waiting area. Only few chairs are installed that too in narrow corridor, said a visitor who claimed that he was waiting since 45 minutes outside the office. Another visitor preferring anonymity told that the staff of DCP office talked rudely and forced them to sit outside the office for long time. Moreover the chairs in the office of DCP had been placed around ten feet away from the table of DCP and the complainants were unable to explain their problem to the officials, he added. If the police cannot provide facilities of waiting area, drinking water, fans then how a person can expect justice from the top officials, said Gurpreet Singh Arora, an advocate.
