Ludhiana: Finally, to end the wrong parking menace in the city, the Ludhiana Police has started tow away drive in the area of Police commissionerate. Earlier also, the tow away drive has solved the problem of traffic to some extent but the drive was suspended after the alleged embezzlement of funds by the contractor. Around one year back the Punjab and Haryana High Court has given the green signal to start the tow away drive.
On Friday, Police Commissioner Jatinder Singh Aulkah flagged-off two vehicles which will tow away wrongly parked vehicles in city. DCP Dhruman Nimbale, ADCP (Traffic) Sandeep Garg and others were also present during the flag-off ceremony.
According to the official spokesperson of Ludhiana Police, the proposed system will be first of its kind in the entire country and digitized end to end. It will have one centralised control room connected with police helpline no. 100 and traffic helpline no. 1073 with 3 additional sub-controls cum towing ponds.
The tow away vehicles will be fitted with CCTV cameras, with the live coverage to control room. The staff will be equipped with tabs to ensure only erring vehicles have been removed. All the vehicles will be fitted with GPS system and all the control rooms will be under the coverage of cctv system linked to centralised control room.
Any person can ring to police helpline numbers 100 and 1073 to know about his towed vehicle and will be informed where the vehicles have been impounded, name of officer, contact details and fine to be paid. As soon as the vehicle is towed the traffic incharge of the zone, Control rooms, senior officials of traffic will be informed systematically, said Police officers.
