Ludhiana: The trains would now run faster as the speed would be increased soon by Northern Railways to let the passengers reach to their destinations in lesser time by the start of next year January 2017 onwards as the trials are over.
At first, the speed of the trains to short routes would be increased and then of the longer routes. The trains included are the fastest trains of India, Shatabdi and Rajdhani Express for which tracks would be repaired.
It is pertinent to mention that till date the highest speed on the New Delhi-Amritsar track is 110 kms and according to railway authorities, they would now be able to run trains on this route at 120 to 130 km per hour, mainly Shatabdi and Rajdhani Express on the routes.
The passengers at Ludhiana Railway Station exhibited the happiness over the news of the speed to be increased as they would be able to reach to their destinations sooner than earlier.
“It’s the need of the hour that the speed of the trains should be increased to upgrade the railways. The trains in abroad run at more than 400 km per hour speed we have not even reached the speed of 150 km per hour”, said Kapil Juneja, a student.
The Station Superintendent at Railway Station, Ludhiana Ashok Salaria, said that on the local routes where there is no electrification of the tracks such as the Ludhiana-Ferozepur trains take a lot of time to reach the destination. So, the Railways have decided to increase the speed of the trains by the start of the next year in the Northern region. The speed on the Ludhiana-Ferozepur and Ludhiana Jakhal routes would be increased to 95-km per hour from the existing 80 km per hour. Similar is case with the Ferozepur-Jalandhar and Amritsar-Ferozepur routes. Routes like Phillaur-Nakodar, Nakodar Lohian, and Jakhal-Hisar, speed would be increased from the existing 75 to 90 km per hour.
