Ludhiana: Tension prevailed in Focal Point area on Thursday night after the accidental death of a labourer. Following the accident, the mob allegedly attacked the owner of truck who fired in self defence and left another person dead.
Sensing the situation, heavy police was deployed in the area. The cops pacified the mob after registering murder case against transport company owner, Majorjit Singh. However, the relatives of the victim were demanding compensation.
According to information, a labourer identified as Vishvajeet Sahu was crushed under truck in Focal Point area. The relatives and co-workers gathered at spot and demanded strict action against the accused driver.
On being informed, the Focal Point Police reached the spot and initiated investigation in the case. In a meantime, the owner of Transport Company reached on the spot to settle the matter.
In the presence of cops, the relatives of the deceased demanded Rs.30 lakh compensation but the owner of the transport company expressed his inability to pay huge compensation.
The situation turns ugly and the mob allegedly attacked transporter, Majorjit Singh. The transporter took shelter in the factory- Aarti steels and the mob also followed him. When the mob pelted stones on factory the security guards and transporters opened fire in which another person died. The deceased killed in the firing has not been identified yet.
To pacify the protesters, the police registered murder case against Majorjit Singh and detained him from the spot. On Friday, a delegation led by Transport Union president met Police Commissioner who assured partial probe in the case.
Sources said that the police have released the transporter and asked him to join the investigation.
