Ludhiana: Keeping in view the significance of agro-processing plants, two agro-processing complexes namely ‘Ravneet Flour Mill,’ owned by S Harbhajan Singh in village Kotmanna Budhree, and ‘Sehaj Flour Mill,’ owned by S Harmel Singh in village Badowal, district Ludhiana have been established with the technical guideline of Punjab Agricultural University (PAU).
Both the agro-processing complexes have been set-up under the aegis of All India Coordinated Research Project on Post Harvest Engineering and Technology. The agro-processing plants include an automatic wheat flour mill, dana mill and grinder. The procurement of baby oil expeller is under process. The inaugural function was attended by Dr M S Alam, Er Rohit Sharma and S. Mehal Singh.
Dr A K Singh, Head, Processing and Food Engineering, PAU, congratulated both the plant owners, S Harbhajan Singh and S Harmel Singh, for taking up this venture. This would help in providing high value products to the people of nearby areas along with generating employment opportunities for the rural youth.
Dr Alam said, “Agro-processing plants are the need of the hour to reduce post-harvest losses and for value addition of agricultural produce at village level.” The processing plants are the result of the efforts put in by PAU farm engineers for turning producers into processors for value addition of agricultural produce, he added.
