Jalandhar: Two persons died and nearly 25 got injured, out of whom five critically after Punjab Roadways bus rammed into a Tipper full of sand on Wednesday morning at Chugitti Chonk of Jalandhar on National Highway- 1.The injured were admitted in different hospitals of Jalandhar. Senior police officers reached the spot immediately and started rescue operation. State Disaster Rescue Force (SDRF) was also put into rescue work. After the incident Tipper driver fled from the spot.
According to eye witnesses, bus was coming from Jammu and was going to Jalandhar bus stand. At 7 am when bus was on Chugitti Bridge, Tipper driver applied brakes suddenly as result bus rammed into the back of Tipper. The collision was so fierce that it sounded like a blast said one of the passerby. Impact of accident was such that front portion the bus got entangled in tipper. Body of the driver Ram Singh of Baba Bakala was taken out with help of SDRF team and two JCB machines. Another persons who died in the accident have been identified as Parminder Singh of Pathankot, who was conductor.
Those injured seriously were admitted in Johal Hospital ,Kapur Hospital and Civil Hospital. Gurminder Singh a PCR constable of Bhogpur, Jaspreet Kaur student of Class XII in Swami Sant Das School, Joginder Singh of Batala, Ragini Sharma lecturer in LPU and one unidentified person were serious and admitted in ICU. Five more persons were admitted in hospitals.
A Swift car also rammed the bus from behind in the melee. Sunil Kumar of Rama Mandi and his relative were injured and the car was fully damaged.
ADCP 1, Jalandhar, Paramjit Singh told media persons that they have reached the spot in time and rescue efforts started immediately.
“We shifted the injured immediately to the hospitals and now we are investigating the cause of accident. It seems tipper driver applied brakes abruptly, due to unknown reasons and bus driver in high speed couldn’t control the bus, “ said ADCP.
