Ludhiana: The Government Railway Police (GRP) have arrested two persons and recovered beef from their possession at Ludhiana railway station. Around six accomplices of the arrested persons managed to escape from the station.
The members of various Hindu organisations staged protest at the railway station and later at main road outside the railway station demanding registration of the case against the accused.
Following the protest, the GRP Police have registered case of Hurting Religious Sentiments and Cow Slaughter Act in this regard. The police have also sent the beef to laboratory for checking.
The accused have been identified as Nazim and Asgar Alam of Kishanganj in Bihar.
According to information, Manoj Chauhan of Gau Raksha Dal got information that some persons were carrying beef in Amarpali Express. Following the information, the GRP police checked coach of the train and arrested two persons with a bag containing about 2-kg beef. Around six accomplices of the arrested persons managed to flee with some quantity of beef.
Initially, the accused have confessed for carrying beef but later they claimed that it is only goat meat.
Those who were present in the protest were Jeevan Khatoon, Amit Sharma, Chander Kalra, Deepak Sachdeva and Ravinder Kumar Bhatia.
