Nawanshahr: The district police today have arrested the three bike-borne youths who had kidnapped a two-year girl, Roshni, from a stroller when her grandfather was walking outside his house in Kothran village near Behram on Friday evening.
Unfortunately, the police could not save the child as the kidnappers had killed her the same day in the evening near Naddalon village in Hoshiarpur district by strangulating her and had tried to burn her body with the help of paddy straw in a field next day in a bid to dispose of the body.
The police have also recovered the half-burnt body of the child in the presence of Garhshankar Tehsildar-cum-duty magistrate Bhupinder Singh. SSP Naveen Singla who personally supervised the entire case today said that the arrested accused have been identified as Goel Kumar alias Gorry, Harman Kumar alias Happy, both residents of Kothran and Rishi, resident of Todderpur under police station Mehtiana in Hoshiarpur district.
The accused had kidnapped the child with the intention of getting ransom. SHO Behram Surinder Chand said all the three youth were teenagers with both Gorry and Happy being of 19 years of age and Rishi being just 15 years old. Lure of easy money for a luxurious life had tempted the three to commit the heinous crime. The deceased father had returned from an Arab country recently, said the SHO.
The police arrested the accused on Y-point Farala at a naka when they were coming on their bike from the side of Munna village. The accused told the police that they had killed the child as she was inconsolable and continued to weep.
Ram Daresh Singh, the grandfather of the deceased child, had told the police that he had brought Roshni outside the house in a stroller for a walk at around 3 pm when suddenly three youth with their covered faces had arrived and fled away after abducting the child from the stroller by pushing him to the other side.
He had raised an alarm and called the villagers but to no avail. His second granddaughter Ridhi, aged 3 years, was also with him at the time of incident.
The police who earlier had registered a case of kidnapping under section 365 now have added Sections 364-A, 302,201, 34, and 120-B against the accused who would be produced in a court to seek their police remand, said the police.
