Ludhiana: The railway vendors are facing loss at the Ludhiana Railway Station due central government’s decision to demonetize Rs. 500 and Rs. 1000 currency notes as people have limited short currency notes so they hesitate to buy anything from the stalls of the railway platforms from the stations unless its very important for them to buy.
The passengers these days prefer to take eatables from home these days to avoid any unnecessary expenditure while train travelling. But it is causing loss to the stall owners at the Ludhiana Railway Station. Moreover, even if the passengers approach them for taking anything they don’t have sufficient currency to give back change to them due to which passengers drop the idea of buying anything from stalls of railway station.Ram Lal, a vendor at the stall of station said, “Due to lack of cash in the market people avoid to buy anything and we have to do the transaction in cash only. Our stalls are not so big that we can do cashless transactions by the cards or any other way. Moreover, we are poor people so we don’t have a lot of the new currency notes and we can’t accept the old ones. We are facing a lot of problem as it affecting our livelihood. We earn and eat on daily basis. Our sales have gone drastically down.” Another vendor of stall at station, Harpreet Singh, said, “The decision of the government ruined our business and living. We don’t know when it will get right.”
Rupesh Mahavir, a passenger at the railway station said, “Our Prime Minister has put us in situation of uncertainty. We have run out of cash as I am struggling with lower denomination notes. I always used to buy things to eat at railway station but now I just stopped myself from buying anything. Even if I try to buy just chips they don’t have currency to give back us and in train, we don’t have much time to wait for exchange too.”
