Ludhiana:To control the birth rate of stray dogs, Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University, Ludhiana has started Animal Birth Control (ABC) programme for stray dogs.
Under this programmes, NGOs/individuals are invited to bring stray dogs (male and female) for sterilisation, with prior appointment, at GADVASU clinical complex.
While sharing the information Dr. SPS Ghuman HOD, Veterinary Clinical Complex said that the increasing population of stray dogs has created a public menace and has posed a life threat to the public and the veterinarian as it may transmit zoonotic disease such as rabies. He revealed that when the appointment is given, animal will register for the case on said date and time. The university will charge nominal registration fee and there will be no charges for, operation cost, material expenses and medicines on the day of operation. The cases will be treated as Clinical cases and all the rules related to surgery of a clinical case will apply. Following recovery of animal from surgery, NGO/individual will take back the animal on same day and post-operative care will be done at their shelter home. Dr Ghuman told that the interested NGOs/individual can contact Teaching Veterinary Clinical Complex, Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Science University, Ferozepur Road or call at 0161-2414010 between 10.00 – 11.00 AM for prior appointment.
