Ludhiana: Vigilance Bureau (VB) on Thursday arrested an Executive Engineer of PSPCL (Punjab State Power Corporation Limited) and Head Constable posted at Police Post Jagatpuri on charges of corruption in two separate cases.
In first case, VB arrested XEN Inderjit Singh, deputed at CMC Division, near Cheema Chowk, for receiving first installment of Rs.1 lakh from Manish Kumar, resident of Mahavir Jain Colony, Sunder Nagar, Ludhiana.
Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), Jaswinder Singh claimed that Manish Kumar has constructed a commercial building and applied for three commercial connections. The XEN demanded Rs.3 lakhs for three connections. The deal was finalised for Rs.2 lakhs, which was to be paid in two installments of Rs.1 lakh each.
Manish Kumar made a complaint to VB following which a trap was laid. The VB Officer arrested him red handed and recovered cash from his possession. A case under Sections 7, 13 (2) of Prevention of Corruption Act has been registered against the accused XEN in this regard. In a separate case, Head Constable Rakesh Kumar deputed at Police Post Jagatpuri under Police Division No.4 for accepting Rs.10,000 from a cycle cart puller for releasing his son, who was kept under illegal custody.
When the sleuths of Economic Offence (EO) Wing of Vigilance Bureau raided to arrest the accused, he managed to flee from the spot, but failed to do so. Inspector Nirdosh Kaur said that Mishri Sahni of Jassian Road has contacted Vigilance Bureau that Head Constable has kept his physically challenged son in illegal custody and demanded Rs 10,000 as bribe to release him. The Head Constable threatened him of implicating his son in forged case if the bribe was not paid.
The Inspector added that on being informed the VB laid a trap and arrested the accused while accepting the bribe. A case under Sections 7, 8, 13 (2) of the Prevention of Corruption Act has been registered against the accused in this regard. DP
