Ludhiana: The recent rape incident of African National who was student of Punjab College of Technical Education (PCTE) has thrown a spotlight on the security and safety of female students living in the hostels. The incident shows that there were strict rules for the students as the victim left the hostel late night.
This has raised the voice on the security and safety inside the college premises and created a wave of fear among students and parents regarding the college hostels.
When contacted, the hostel warden Anandita, said, “The college is having strict rules and regulations. We maintain proper record for the students going out. The girls are allowed to go out from the hostel at 6 in the morning and in the evening their deadline is 7.30. If any student who wants to go out gives us a reason and then we sanction the leave with the number of a concerned person.”
Despite much strict rules and regulations of hostel, security of girls puts a question mark on the foreign student who was out late at night.
Requesting anonymity, a student studying in the college said, “The college has never faced any voice against the hostel security. They are really strict in matters of going out and coming in. Entry system is also there but after this incident of rape the parents and especially the girls are much worried about it.”
Principal of Government College for Girls, Mohinder Kaur Grewal said, “The girls are safe at the hostels and we have full security and safety for the girls. Hostlers cannot leave the college without seeking the permission. Girls are allowed to roam inside the college premises but they cannot leave the college without their entry and permission.”
