Jagraon: A woman in her twenties died while a girl escaped with minor injuries when the two-wheeler they were riding on was hit by a speeding truck on Railway Over Bridge in Jagraon on Thursday evening. The deceased woman has been identified as Rajinder Kaur, a resident of Talwandi Mallhian village in Moga district while the injured girl has been identified as Amritpal Kaur (20), a resident of Atam Nagar locality in Jagraon. She is undergoing treatment at Civil Hospital Jagraon and her situation is stated to be out of danger.
As per the information, the accident took place at around 5 pm today when both the women were going to a private hospital to meet a relative. According to eyewitnesses, as soon as the two-wheeler the women were riding on reached Railway Over Bridge on Tehsil Road, it was hit by a truck coming from the back side.
The truck driver fled from the spot immediately after the accident leaving behind the truck. Soon a police team led by DSP Jagraon Rachpal Singh Dhindsa and SHO Jagraon Rajesh Kumar reached the spot and rushed both the women to Civil Hospital where the doctors declared Rajinder Kaur declared brought dead.
No case was registered in this regard till the filing of this report. SHO Jagraon Rajesh Kumar said the police have been investigating into the matter and an appropriate action would be taken after thorough investigation. “The police have the vehicles involved in the accident. We are yet to record the statement of the injured girl. An appropriate case would be registered after recording the statement of the injured girl and the eyewitnesses,” said SHO Rajesh Kumar.
