Ludhiana: The infighting in Ludhiana Congress and opposition of sitting member Parliament and probable candidate Ravneet Singh Bittu may prove dearer for Congress party. Instead of threat from opposition parties, the Congress is facing criticism from within the party.
Former Minister and MLA from Ludhiana north, Rakesh Pandey has openly opposed the candidature of Ravneet Bittu. Pandey who has also applied for MP ticket from Ludhiana stated that the performance of sitting MP Bittu was not good in five years and MP was not approachable.
Sources informed that Pandey is also in touch with Shiromani Akali Dal and some other parties. The opposition from MLA Rakesh Pandey will become hurdle for Ravneet Bittu in Ludhiana North constituency, from which Pandey remained MLA for five times.
Apart from the Rakesh Pandey, the faction led by former Union Minister and former MP Manish Tewari is also against Ravneet Bittu. Former district Congress president and close aide of Tewari, Pawan Dewan has applied for ticket from Ludhiana. Youth Congress leader and son of Baghapurana MLA, Kamaljit Singh Brar is also eyeing on MP ticket from Ludhiana and opposing Ravneet Singh Bittu as MP candidate.
Earlier, former Union Minister and former MP from Ludhiana Manish Tewari was also the contender for Congress ticket from Ludhiana but now Tewari laid claim for par ticket from Chandigarh. However, Bittu had a sigh of relief with Tewari left claim for Ludhiana Lok Sabha seat as Tewari is likely to be adjusted as candidate from Anandpur Sahib Constituency.
Meanwhile, Bittu is also facing anti incumbency in this election. The leaders who were ignored during MC elections, Panchayat elections and others were also against Ravneet Singh Bittu.
However, the Shiormani Akali Dal and Punjab Democratic Alliance (PDA) is facing candidate’s crisis and to counter sitting MP but Ravneet Singh Bittu is facing threat from within the party.
